Jack's Lament.

I have been using Yahoo messenger since I first came online some 6 years ago and never had a problem with it until now. This past weekend they basically killed off the last version that was actually worth using, version 1358, no longer do they support voice and up until a few weeks ago webcams.

The new messenger is far too bulky and they have tried to go head to head with the likes of Skype and Google talk and now that the new version beta 8 is out, they want to dominate the messenger market with MSN and basically have joined forces. I hate it.

The older messengers were great because they did what many people wanted, you could chat/voice and use your webcam with friends without having your resources chewed up and without having to download a program at 12MB, they also haven't made it work friendly. Gone are the days where you simply log on and chat, for me now it lags and is just a general pain in the ass.

I know technology has to change with the times, but it doesn't mean that Yahoo has to alienate all its old users. I have spoken to MANY people who hate the new version and have gone on to find something else to use that is more lite, which becomes a hassle as some other programs they have gone on to use don't have Yahoo compatbility, so I either have to resort to emailing them, or download another messenger service that is compatable.

I honestly don't know why they don't release a Yahoo messenger lite version, which has simple functions such as voice and webcam support, they would actually be suprised how many users would use it as all the gadgets found on the newer versions aren't needed. Hell, I would just be happy if they allowed version 1358 to have voice and webcam support again.
