Justice System Does Right - Sort Of...
A New York judge has imposed a US$1M a day fine against the Transport Workers Union for violating a state law that bars public employees from going on strike after the city and state had asked that the union be hit with a "very potent fine."
Just days before Christmas, and during what must be an extremely busy time for New York, these asswipes decide to call a halt to public transport resulting in would-be commuters trudging through snow, riding bikes or sharing cabs.
While New York stood to lose (according to the city comptroller) US$400 Million in the first day and a subsequent $300 million per day afterward, the union has decided that this fine is a little "excessive" and they're seeking an appeal.
The city has offered the union annual raises of 3 percent, 4 percent and 3.5 percent; full salary pension, begining at age 55, not just for all current workers, but for all future workers and the same 2% levy on salaries of current workers to buy in to the pension, but a 6% levy on the salaries of future workers for the same benefit yet Angel Ortiz, 32, standing on the Bronx-Manhattan border with hundreds of other striking transit workers beneath an elevated rail line that carried no trains said "We're tired of being treated like we're the garbage of the city."
Here's a newsflash bud, you virtually ARE the garbage of the city. The only qualification you ever needed was a driver's license and anyone can get one of those. You don't educate our children, you don't care for the sick or elderly, you don't put out fires, defuse bombs or uphold the law and protect the civilians: You drive a fucking train.
That's it.
Get over yourselves.
What the city should be doing is sacking each and every last driver that's on strike and then bring in the full extent of the law where not only do the union's 33,000 members lose two days' pay for every day they are on strike, they could also be thrown in jail. Then what the city should do is bring in new people who would be grateful to have a job, because I'm sure there are 33,000 unemployed people in and around New York who have a license and are having a rather bleak christmas due to stretched finances.
These selfish fuckers are breaking the law with their bully boy tactics and the city is letting them.
Fire the bastards already.
