Community Announcement

I'm sitting here helping Snarff make templates for BlogLegion and I'm reading through a whole ton of shit and I start to wonder... Who makes up all the neato names?

For instance, who was the first person to say the word "blog"? How long was it before other people started using it and how long did it take before everyone was saying it?

Same with bling-bling. When? Why? How long?

I remember a couple of years ago on a television show I was watching called The Panel, one of the hosts of the show, Santo Cilauro (don't bother clicking links, there are no pics but it made it all look important when I linked it up) (no. wait. I found a great snap of Santo and here are the lovely regulars from The Panel so now you can click) decided to make up a different meaning to a word and he wanted to see how long it would take before it caught on. The word was "valid" and he said that it would mean "good" or "excellent".

At the time, I thought he was full of shit and that it wouldn't take off, but a few months later an advertisement came on for McDonalds and two surfer dudes were eating the burgers and one of them said "valid". Cue look of wonder on Deb's face and even Santo was impressed that it had taken off. He organised for the clip to be shown as proof that he actually did it.

So here's the deal. I've used the word brazillionty a few times and I want to see if I can do what Santo did. I don't expect to see it in a commercial, but I wanted to know if I could get people to use it in their blogs. It means an unknown quantity, but probably a lot; and here is where the word was first mentioned and why I love the word so much.

I plan on using the word a brazillionty times.

Use it in your posts. Lets see how long it takes before everyone is using it.

I'm sad to say that without even looking it up on google I can in fact tell you the who, when and where behind the term "bling, bling". The phrase was coined by New Orleans rapper Lil' Wayne. Fellow Cash Money Millionaires rapper BG (I told you it was sad, I shouldn't know this stuff) released the song "Bling, Bling" on his 1999 album Chopper City In The Ghetto. That was the very first time that phrase was uttered in a public manner. Most of the rappers have stopped saying it. The soccer moms aren't going down without a fight though.

Hello Deb, I did a search for your new word just in case, but it came up Brazillian lol, so I guess your word really IS a new word. You go girl!

Hope you're enjoying the Christmas season, and I'd like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year :-)

brazillionty! That's brazilliant! Cheers for your comment on my blog. Unfortunately I'm still on the stink-sticks, but I'm gunna kick 'em soon. Santo, Mick Malloy, Rob Sitch etc. are so fukcing funny. The Late Show is still my favourite show that was. I've seen it brazillionty times, especially the Desmond Tu-tu and Yasser-Arafat sketches.
PS: is that you b.side at the top of the page? If so, cool tat (and the rest, te he eh).

I might have looked like that a hundred years ago and my tat is smaller so no, no it is not me :(

I used to love D-Gen as well on channel 2 that they had before the Late Show. They did a sketch on Jaws 4 that had me rolling.

Aussie humour is in a class of its own and I love it.

Ahh, exactly the word I was looking for, I used it at once in my post on the brazillionty time I tried to find a bikini - in Brazil...

Brazillionty, Mamma Jamma!!

Three phrases should be among the most common in our daily usage. They are: Thank you, I am grateful and I appreciate.
